The Magnificat, otherwise known as the Canticle of Mary, is found in Luke 1:46-55. It was the joyful outburst of the Blessed Virgin Mary when she visited Elizabeth. It has been used in various languages and styles in religious worship, and is always found as part of the Divine Office for evening prayer everyday!
The contribution of Nsay ki la is, first of all, using in Lamnso’. This is the language spoken by the Nso people in the NW of Cameroon. Secondly, it has a folk style. It is the To’ dance, which enables the performance to express the joyful element of the song in it’s original context many years ago in Galilee.
Nsay ki la wrote the song in September of 2018, but only produced it in 2021 together with Dijay Kay, featuring The Virtual Chorale. Listening to it will get you dancing, whether you know the language or not.
